Collection: Heart Health

The health of your heart should be foremost on your mind. Your heart starts beating before you are born and over the span of a lifetime can beat over 2.5 BILLION times. Each beat moves life supporting blood through the intravenous system. The blood coursing through your veins carries with it oxygen, fuel, hormones, and nutrients. It also whisks away the waste products for prompt removal.
Investing in your heart health is, in my opinion, one of the most fruitful investments a person can make.
Here are a few tips that I found to help maintain a healthy heart.

  • Eat healthy
    • A healthy diet consists of plenty of veggies, plenty of fruit, any meat that you eat should be lean and shouldn't be deep fried.
  • Get active
    • Getting active should be self explanatory. But... just in case you should have a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes of BRISK activity. Walking at a fast pace, riding a bike or even something fun like roller blading would be good. It doesn't matter what you do, it just matters that you do something every day!
  • Stay at a healthy weight
    • People in modern first world countries and especially American's have been gaining weight little by little for years, maybe even decades. It's time to turn the tides. It's time to manage weight as though our lives depend on it. Keeping your body at a healthy weight is one of the first things to consider when overall health and well being is your goal.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke
    • Okay... Smoking is hard to quit, BUT it's bad for your lungs, it's bad for your heart, and it's bad for everyone who inhales your second hand smoke. It takes time and EFFORT to quit but I assure you that it ois worth it.
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure
    • Some people inheirit cholesterol issues while others eat their way into it. High cholesterol and high blood pressure are both issues that effect heart health. There are medications that can mitigate both. If you have high cholesterol of high blood pressure you should seek out a health care professional for advice.
  • Drink alcohol only in moderation
    • While drinking alcohol from time to time isn't a health risk drinking it in excess is. Keep this in mind when your thinking about creating and maintaining your best life.
  • Manage stress
    • I've often been asked how to manage stress. I could write a whole article on the effects of stress on a healthy person. You would be surprised how stress can effect your overall health and well being. Some techniques to manage stress are listed above... Exercise being one of the most effective.
With just a few adjustments to your life style you can work wonders for the health and function of your heart.
